Thanks Radar and Scouser.

Hoping to have it back on the road by Easter.

The stripes are painted on and then laquered. It difficult to see on the photos but both the green and the black are metallic. I'm not planning on adding any decals although I might have another numberplate made up with the web address of the Bikeforum on it.

Did you get the number plate with thebikeforum url?

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, VODKA in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.......WOO HOO, WHAT A RIDE!!

I can confirm its not only Kawasaki that can make green look mean! Kat has done a good job and the bike looks superb! Roll on summer!

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left!

At last!!

On Sunday finally managed to get the important combination of a break in the weather, road tax and insurance, in order to take the bike out for its first (legal) run since I took it apart.

It started up fine on the button and ticked over evenly (all be it loudly). All was fine until I opened it up and the timing chain began to rattle. So with the bike sounding like a Talbot Horizon I made my way gingerly back home.

I knew what the problem was, the cam chain tensioner. When I took it apart I noted the preload on the spring to be 1 1/2 turns but my genuine Suzuki workshop manual (not a common Haynes book of lies) stated 1 turn. Uncharacteristically I followed the manual - doh!

It is possible (but fiddly) to remove the tensioner without taking off the carbs (made easier as I haven't got an airbox). So with the tensioner reset and 1 1/2 turns of preload on the spring I refitted it and the bike runs like a goodun.

So now I'm all set for the summer (as long as nothing else falls off, catches fire or just decides to not work - the joys of a 21 year old bike).

Please to heear you have got her running. Pop up for a cuppa and a bacon butty! Only 40 mins away, even a Suzuki should be able to manage that!

I'll take you up on that - might have to stop over night half way though!

Haven't done a lot to it since Scouser just put an Acewell clock and LED indicators on it.
